Frequently Asked Questions
1. If my camper attends camp full-day are they required to participate in the athletic camp?
Yes, all full-day campers will be participating in a half-day athletic camp. Within each age group, campers will be divided into smaller groups based on their athletic abilities. We would like to see all campers gain exposure to athletics and receive some physical activity each day.
2. My camper is 6 years old, which group-Introduction or Beginner-should they be placed in?
The Introduction group (ages 4-6) is recommended for all campers that need a period of rest each day. This group is also good for campers that have little to no athletic experience. The Beginner group (ages 6-10) is recommended for campers that have interest in athletics and do not need a daily rest time.
3. My camper is 10 years old, which group-Beginner or Intermediate-should they be placed in?
As a rule of thumb, campers that have completed elementary school should be placed in the Intermediate group while campers that just completed 4th grade should be placed in the Beginner group. In cases where a rising 5th grader is well above his/her peers athletically, they may be placed with the Intermediate group for athletics but with the Beginner group in the afternoon. Please contact the program director, Kelly Taylor, if you are in this situation.
4. How/when will we pay for each week of camp?
All parents will receive a bill from the Statesville Christian School business office monthly for summer camp. Bills will be sent on June 24th for the weeks of May 31, June 6, June 13 and June 20. Bills will be sent on July 22 for the weeks of June 27, July 11, July 18. Bills will be sent on August 15 for the weeks of July 25, August 1 and August 8.
5. If my child attends camp on a week that has an additional field trip fee, are they required to go on the field trip? Will childcare be provided on campus for campers that choose not to attend the field trip?
We are working hard to find field trips that fall inside your regular camp fees. Occasionally, when field trips are more costly, we will charge an additional fee. You will be notified well in advance of the week of the actual additional cost. There will be no childcare provided on campus for campers that choose not to attend field trips.
6. We are going on vacation and will miss several days of camp, are we required to pay for the entire week?
Yes, staffing is determined based on the number of campers that register for camp, therefore weekly camp fees will not be pro-rated based on the number of days a camper attends camp.
7. I need camp for my middle-schooler for the entire summer, will there be childcare available if the academic or athletic camp for the week is cancelled due to insufficient enrollment?
While we are working hard to provide a full camp experience for middle school campers, we cannot guarantee that the academic or athletic camps will have sufficient enrollment. If these camps are cancelled, middle-schoolers that need full-day childcare will be allowed to participate in the Beginner camp (ages 6-10) as a helper. In this case, the full day fee will be reduced to $80/week.
8. I am interested in taking a high school hybrid course. What is a hybrid course? What is required to complete the course?
A hybrid course is a combination of online learning and traditional teaching. Students will be required to attend an introductory meeting on Monday June 13. At this time students will receive their online username and password for their selected course and may begin the online portion of the course. Students are required to attend a two-hour tutoring session with a teacher provided by Statesville Christian School once per week. These sessions will typically be scheduled from 12:30-2:30 pm on Tuesdays or Thursdays, although individual teachers may work out other times/dates that are agreeable to both parties. Students are also required to take all online assessments at Statesville Christian School with the Summer Program Director at a pre-scheduled time. Students will have nine-weeks to complete the course and must have all required assignments and assessments complete by August 12th. SCS is closed the week of July 4th, no tutoring will be available that week, nor will assessments be taken. The grade received in the course will be recorded on an official SCS transcript. Non-SCS students must request that this transcript be sent to their school.
