2024-2025
TUITION ASSISTANCE PROCESS FOR STATESVILLE CHRISTIAN SCHOOL

Guiding Philosophy:

Since 1995 Statesville Christian School has sought to provide a Christian-based educational opportunity to the families of Iredell County and other contiguous communities within reasonable travel distances.

The purpose of Tuition Assistance is to expand the number of families who enroll their children at SCS who otherwise may not have the fiscal capacity to pay full tuition. Using the FACTS system for determining eligibility, a committee consisting of the Head of School, Finance Director, Chairman of the Board of Trustees, two additional Board of Trustees members, and the Upper-School Principal, will make all decisions related to the awarding of financial aid. Our decisions will be guided by a desire to apportion available funds across as many families as possible, which may limit the size of the award to individual families, but will increase the collective impact of the tuition assistance program across more families. We believe this will increase enrollment and retention of families.

Awards will be made based on available funding, aggregate total of assistance needed as determined by FACTS, and a proportionate percentage of awards that are deemed most equitable and fair by the committee. Consideration will include all sources of assistance including the NC Opportunity Scholarship, as well as the overall financial condition of the applying families determined by the most recent tax returns, W-2 forms, and any other financial information accessible to the committee. Total assistance will be capped at 75 percent maximum, thus all families will be expected to provide a minimum of 25 percent of the tuition costs from their personal resources. In most cases, the total award we provide from tuition assistance for qualifying families will not exceed 25 percent of the tuition costs.

Basic Principles of the Tuition Assistance Process:

  1. Families seeking tuition assistance are required to apply first for the North Carolina Opportunity Scholarship.
  2. Financial assistance is determined solely by the discretion of the Tuition Assistance Committee based on the economics of the school and operating budget.
  3. Families will examine all personal potential resources and deem them insufficient to cover tuition before applying for tuition assistance.
  4. Families seeking financial assistance will honestly and accurately provide all necessary personal payroll, tax-related, and income and asset information directly to FACTS, for an objective review of their situation. Discovery of any intentional misrepresentations will void the financial assistance agreement.
  5. Financial information is required of both custodial and non-custodial parents or guardians in the application for financial aid.
  6. Financial assistance will be needs-based only, and no consideration will be made relative to extra-curricular participation.
  7. All financial assistance deadlines and documentation requirements will be met with timeliness, accuracy, and full completion.
  8. The school is not obligated to provide financial assistance at any level but does so at their discretion based on all factors deemed relative and important by the committee.
  9. Applications for tuition assistance must be submitted annually.
  10. Tuition assistance is a year-to- year decision and there is no guarantee of an award similar to the previous year, or any award based solely on prior history.
  11. Any previous year issues that created hardship for the school or staff may impact the decision of awarding assistance for the coming year. Examples of such issues include: failure to pay remaining balances of tuition or fees; lack of academic effort by the student; non-cooperative behavior by the parent or student(s); or similar issues. Such issues may result in a decision of non-award.
  12. Receipt of financial assistance shall be kept discreet and any breach of information is considered grounds for retraction of aid granted.
  13. All amounts of balance owed by the family will be paid in a timely manner or non-compliance can be considered grounds for retraction of aid granted.
  14. The North Carolina Opportunity Scholarship, if awarded to a family, will be used first to cover financial need, before any additional assistance is awarded.
  15. If receipt of the NC Opportunity Scholarship occurs after we have calculated financial assistance, a revised letter of award will be issued to reflect the impact of this award. The school level portion of financial aid will equal the total determined award less the NC Opportunity Scholarship.
  16. All sources of tuition assistance and discounting will be considered in total when determining financial aid. The committee will not apply multiple discounts as in the case of an employee who may also qualify for a pastoral discount, or in the case of both parents who may be employees of the school. The highest applicable discount will be used, but not the sum of both.
  17. The maximum amount of tuition assistance, including the NC Opportunity Scholarship if awarded by the state, will not exceed 75 percent of the cost of tuition; thus, in no case will a family be responsible for less than 25 percent of the cost of tuition. The average family aid award is typically much less.
  18. All families receiving aid are expected to contribute to the school’s volunteer needs.
  19. All families receiving financial aid will be notified in writing and must return a signed notice of acceptance to the finance manager who will create a payment contract for each family.
  20. Payment options include: one lump sum payment, two semi-annual payments, or monthly payments. FACTS assesses a fee of $25 for the annual or semi-annual payments or a fee of $55 for the monthly payment plan.
