SCS Athletic FYI’s

Welcome to Statesville Christian School athletics! We are so glad you have chosen
our program for your child’s athletic abilities! We have composed some frequently asked questions about our program to hopefully make things easier throughout the season!
Please let us know if you have questions or concerns.

Athletic Program Directors:
Athletic Director: JD Chaplain: jchaplain@statesvillechristian.org
Assistant to the Athletic Director: Rachel Stanley: rstanley@statesvillechristian.org

Required Documentation:
For athletes to participate in sports here as SCS, the following must be completed and
turned in to the school AD or his assistant:

1)updated sports physical signed by a medical provider

2)signed athletic handbook agreement

3)NCISAA consent

4)NCISAA concussion These forms are due yearly!

Tryouts:
As SCS continues to grow, change in process will come. With growth, comes more
students and more interest for each team. Different than in the past, some teams will
have to host tryouts. Coaches will use skill checkoff and drills to determine who will fill
the roster. Encourage your child to perform at the best of their ability during tryouts!

Team and Coach Communication:
SCS uses Team Snap for all communication with the coaches and players. This is an
app that will need to be downloaded to your smartphone. You will receive an emailed
invitation to join the team. You have to accept that invitation to be added to the team.
Make sure notifications are on because updates occur frequently and you need to stay
informed!

Transportation to Away Games:
SCS does its best to provide bus transportation to away games. However, there may
be times when a bus is not available. In the event of this, parents will need to drive their
child to the game. Bus transportation will typically be a “drive and drop” in which
case, it is the responsibility of the parent to get the player back home. If the bus
driver is able to stay through the duration of the games and transport players back to
the school, we will let you know (posted in team snap.) If you are or know someone with a CDL that may be willing to help drive the buses to away games, please let us know!

Carpool Options:
Players can carpool with other players to get to away games with volunteer drivers.
Volunteer drivers MUST be cleared through the main office in order to drive children
other than their own.

Practices and Games:
Practices and games are scheduled around conference games. Games CAN change
multiple times as conflicts develop throughout the season. We do our best to make
families aware of any changes as soon as possible. Changes are unforeseen so please
be patient with us and understand that changes in the schedule tend to be out of our
control.

Athlete Eligibility:
Athletes are held to academic and discipline standards. These standards are outlined
in the student handbook.

Coach/Parent Disagreement:
We understand there will be times that parents/athletes will not agree with the actions of
a coach. These disagreements cause stress, tension, and strife amongst the players
and coaches. We respectfully request that any concerns be addressed 24 hours after
the event. This gives time for emotions to calm down. Please pray for wisdom so
concerns are delivered in a constructive manner instead of a demeaning manner.
Remember, being a coach is not easy, if it was, everyone would want to be a coach!

Gate/Concession/Scoreboard/Book Coverage:
It is mandatory and expected that parents volunteer for at least one shift per child
participating in the active season. Obviously, if there are 8 players on a team and 4
home games are scheduled, calling for 16 spots to be filled, parents need to cover more
than one shift. This program depends HEAVILY on the concessions and gate fees to
operate. We are currently using Sign-Up Genius as a tool to sign up for volunteer
opportunities. Sign up opportunities for ALL games will be available so parents can
volunteer for a game before or after their child plays. Please do your part to keep this
program running! Failure to sign up and cover shifts may result in added fees or your
child having to miss playoffs at the end of the season. If you have a conflict that
prevents you from covering any of the available shifts, please let us know.

NCISAA vs PCAA(Piedmont Christian Athletic Association)
NCISAA is the conference league SCS actively participates in. Grades 5th-12th
participate in NCISAA and games are typically held during the week. PCAA is a league
made up of local christian schools that offers athletics to grades K-5 through 8th grade.
PCAA was developed as an alternative to the normal youth county rec league involving
public schools. PCAA is an instructional league focused on developing a skillful
foundation of elementary students wishing to play competitive high school sports.
PCAA games are mainly played on Saturdays at local gyms and should not interfere
with NCISAA schedules. Athletes wishing to participate in both leagues are able and
encouraged to do so! We also encourage any athlete that did not make the middle
school team for NCISAA to participate in PCAA for growth and development of skills.
